Dear Kash Patel and Dan Bongino,
This is an open letter to the current heads of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, asking a simple question: Why was Norman Yarvin, the brother of Curtis Guy Yarvin, allowed to pipe bomb Yale Law School in 2003 with no consequences?
From an outside perspective, Norman Yarvin appeared to have been spared jail time because he and his brother, Curtis Yarvin, known as the far-right blogger Mencius Moldbug, had close ties to various intelligence programs and DARPA projects. However, because a gag order was used at the time to silence the press, Norman Yarvin’s bombing of Yale seems to have been purposely ignored.
On the rainy Wednesday afternoon of 21 May 2003, a pipe bomb exploded at approximately 4:40 pm in an empty ground-floor classroom, Room 120, inside Yale Law School. Soon after, the police responded to an alleged break-in at Norman Yarvin’s rented apartment. During the search of Norman Yarvin’s home, investigators were presented with all the equipment necessary to make a pipe bomb. Norman Yarvin had also attended and worked at Yale before this discovery. Lieutenant Richard Dunham of Hampden Police told the New York Times in an article entitled, 2nd Home Is Searched for Evidence in Yale Bombing Investigation, that the apartment, rented by Norman Yarvin – referred to in the article as “a Yale graduate and former employee of the university’s computer science department” – was searched by FBI agents and the state police, following the investigation of the break-in.
Lieutenant Dunham told reporters that federal and state agents were notified because of items found at the scene, and although Dunham did not identify any specifics about those items, Karen L. Gordon, one of the owners of the house, told reporters on the previous day that the items included pipes, saying:
”The kind that could be used in pipe bombs, but I guess they could also be used for plumbing.”
Her father, Edward L. Gordon, discovered the break-in after they received a call from Norman Yarvin. He told them that he had been staying with his parents in College Park, MD. Yarvin had called them because he thought he might have forgotten to empty his kitchen trash, Ms. Gordon told reporters:
”When my father got there, the door was pushed open. The bedroom had been ransacked. There were bullets thrown on the bed.”
Later, when interviewed by the press, Yarvin told reporters that he:
“…planned to contact local and federal police for more information on the break-in, noting that his guns had been stolen.”
His statements to the press suggested that Yarvin had yet to be questioned by authorities. Federal investigators seized gunpowder, pipes, and drill bits after searching the property. Yarvin conceded that the materials confiscated could be used to make a pipe bomb:
”I have some interest in things that go bang and boom. Pipe bombs do that.”
What wasn’t reported at the time was that Yarvin had, only a couple of years prior, set up an archive site titled Yarchive.net, where he had saved various scientific documents and conversations related to bomb making. Yarchive included a section on explosives with a small subsection on tips for making pipe bombs. The site has details on making various explosive compounds.
The FBI should not allow pipe bombs to be set off at one of America’s grandest universities without any repercussions, and they should also prevent the illegal dissemination of such material.
Could you please ensure that the case is reopened and Norman Yarvin’s central role is fully investigated? Previously, a gag order was put on the press, which prevented anyone from discussing the case. I’ve obviously broken that gag order on numerous occasions. It’s a great shame that I am more likely to be prosecuted for breaking a gag order than the Yarvins are for clear terrorist activities.
It has been over 20 years since the Yale pipe bombing, and since then, Curtis Yarvin has developed his neo-reactionary philosophy to call for a revolution in America. It is totally unacceptable that the Yarvin brothers have been allowed to actively propagate an overarching ideology that is terroristic in nature, while having previously disseminated detailed bomb making instructions via Norman Yarvin’s website, Yarchive. And, it is even more unacceptable that Norman Yarvin’s terrorism was not published earlier. The Federal Bureau of Investigation should immediately take action to investigate and prosecute based upon evidence rather than association.
Norman Yarvin should not get away with the bombing of a prestigious university, simply because his brother is central to Peter Thiel’s intelligence-linked business operations.
Yours Sincerely
Johnny Vedmore
